Jamie grew up in San Diego and spent her days and nights outside, wading through tide pools, camping in Joshua Tree, and discovering the trails and hidden hot springs sprinkled throughout the Sierra Nevada mountains. She explored the majesty of the Mountain West while attending school at the University of Wyoming, and eventually, made her way to North Carolina. After ten years practicing law, she decided life was better lived outside. She spent winter hiking the Appalachian Trail, spring and summer in a plant nursery, and eventually began landscaping at the University of North Carolina Asheville before joining Green Truck Gardens.

Her gardening philosophy: grace. She planted her first vegetable garden in 2014 when she moved to Asheville. Her only watermelon fruit was inhaled by a pesky groundhog. The voles helped themselves to her entire carrot crop, and half her tomatoes got blight. Gardening is science. But it’s also art. It’s therapy - and it requires patience and a little humility. In time, one begins to speak the language of their plants. And if they’re lucky – the secret language of voles.

Jamie is currently pursuing an Undergraduate Certificate in Horticultural Science from North Carolina State University. She is passionate about learning and spreading awareness of not only the necessity of native flora, but also its unique beauty.
